None of us are perfect, and our imperfections of character (in action or inaction) are called sins.
To Determine Sin, ask these questions:
1.Does it harm physically or psychologically?
2.Does it ruin relationships?
3.Does it cause abandonment of duty?
4.Is it hateful?
There is good and bad, and another way of putting it is there is good actions and good lessons. Pain is a part of achievement. Effort and sacrifice combined with justice validate. It is formation of opinion and will. Without it there would be no dynamic or volume, and perfection can only exist with defined compatibility (for example, there is only one number 1; the condition of truth). God will salvage from any situation and evil really doesn't stand a chance. There is only one way of learning about evil and that's living with it. We must be free to feel joy and control, which is what God wants for us. So feel FREE to love God!
Free will allows us to share in God's magnificence and creation, for it is good. We experience bad because it is the true result of our actions. We can have perfection by creating it with God. It takes time and effort, and pain, and there is a purpose that even God accepts pain for, for He died on the cross for us. That makes this world the best world for us in this moment. It is the world of awareness, of experience. It has to be separate in some way from God and His perfection for us to exist, to be defined. It has to have our will infused in it. Pain is literally the past, or nonexistence, haunting us. The only way better is progress.
To exist, something must first be created, then perfected. In other words, it must be defined in reference to all else. God is not only responsible for evil but for it's reform. This is to ensure perfection (actuality) and also for our existence, so that our aversion to evil can be overcome by our love for good. "God doesn't discourage, He encourages".
Why is there evil? I read from St. Thomas Aquinas that there is only good as a cause and that evil is an accident or secondary effect of good actions. That begs the question that if God is perfect, as in a perfect or ideal creator, wouldn't there be no accidents? Perhaps God is complete, we are incomplete, and our time as incomplete is the variation that helps define us and is necessary. What is "imperfect" is simply not complete. WE MUST WORK FOR OUR PERFECTION. We are free because that is how you start creating a perfect being. Freedom of Excellence. It comes natural with appreciation. We will be known for how we face adversity. Free will, our souls, is the greatest gift ever! This is the only possible world compatible with God's truth. Face it with courage! Wisdom is what we really wanted when we ate the fruit from the garden of Eden. So this is what we get; a chance to become wise.

Grave sins are:
Pride- the only good pride is in knowing, loving, and serving God, in which the pride is of evidence of God. All other pride is an imbalance of perspective.
Avarice- aka greed. Seeking pleasure without seeking the common good. One can have free time or spare wealth but it's not primary. Use it to be creative and inspired to serve all. Put first the kingdom of God.
Lust- it's procrastination and aversion to marriage. If it's cheating then it's also disassociation with one's spouse. Masturbation is necessary for men.
Envy- our wealth isn't evenly distributed but it can't be even if we tried. Things are different. Talents are different. We can negotiate, but we should have the welfare of all in mind.
Gluttony- this is usually psychologically rooted, but it also shows that the person is wrongfully rooted in the pleasure of eating. It's a series of small habits and one needs to get out of that environment and permissive relationships.
Anger- with a little self-reflection, one can test if this is good or bad. Have you ever tried facing a serious wrongdoing without anger? For one, you feel better; more self-control, clearer-minded, quicker response. There is no duty to anger. In fact, it is mediocre and childish.
Sloth- lack of motivation can be psychological or metabolic. It takes a good friend to get one to snap out of it.
